SODC to be abolished?

Oxford Mail of 6 February reports that South Oxfordshire District Council may be abolished as part of the Government's move towards regionalisation. Minister David Milliband sees two-tier authorities as inefficient. The STOP! campaign believes that local government should continue to be just that - close to the people it serves.

Reference comments made by Keith Mitchell in the Oxford Mail 6th February : I believe nobody should be allowed to be a Minister until they have suffered at least one divorce, and preferably live on the same planet as the rest of us.

This is another step in the programme to break up England into the EU-designated regions so that it will be easier to orevent united opposition from the England we know and for which many of us fought in WWII.

These 'regional assemblies' are unelected and do not have the support of the great majority of the electorate. This was was dramatically demonstrated when a referendum was held in the norh-east (which the government thought was the area most favourable to them) which recorded a four to one vote against the 'regions'. Typically the north-east region took no notice of this and has carried on as before.

Excellent news regarding STOP campaign providing the "small print" confirms the Headline.
Thanks must be due to Ann Ducker also to Malcolm Leonard for Chairing STOP, to Liz Ransom and David Woodward ( P.R. & Website) and to all the Stop Committee members who gave of their time.
If the report of the Government wanting to abolish S.O.D.C. is correct then this result must surely add impetus to a S.ave O.ur D.istrict C.ouncil campaign!
We must also question Keith Mitchells motives for opposing the motion. As leader of O.C.C. as well as Chair of Seera are his government paymasters a higher priority than his constituents?
